Spanish monarchy in the art

The Museo Nacional de Arte presented, Yo, el Rey. La monarquía hispánica en el arte (I, the King. Spanish monarchy in the art), an exhibition that addressed the configuration and the ways in which the king of Spain was represented in the arts. This was possible thanks to a selection of approximately 200 artworks, objects, and documents.

The exhibition gathered great masters of New Spain and important Spanish painters, among which José Juárez, Cristóbal de Villalpando, Miguel Cabrera, Santiago Rebull, Pantoja de la Cruz, Francisco de Zurbarán, Jean Ranc, Diego Velázquez, and Francisco de Goya stand out.

It also incorporates works from international collections, such as Royal Collections of the National Heritage of Spain, the Museo Nacional del Prado, the Museo Lázaro Galdiano, the Museo de América, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Hispanic Society; as well as, national collections from the Museo Nacional de Arte, the Museo Nacional de San Carlos, the Museo Nacional de Historia, the Museo Nacional del Virreinato, the Museo Franz Mayer and the invaluable participation of private collections.
