15 de Dec 1987 - 31 de Jan 1988
Composed of 170 works, three of which came to the public attention for the first time, on Tuesday, December 15, 1987, the Saturnino Herrán 1887-1987 tribute exhibition was inaugurated. It lasted until January 1988. It commemorated the centenary of the birth of the painter and, in Mexico City, it completed a tour that began in Aguascalientes in April of that same year, traveling through Tijuana and Guadalajara.
The exhibition that was inaugurated in the Museo Nacional de Arte was enhanced with more artworks (50 more paintings) and some documents that complemented the research that the Instituto de Investigaciones Estéticas de la UNAM and the National Institute of Fine Arts carried out around the life and work of Saturnino Herrán. These organizing instances also prepared some conferences and roundtables entitled "Days of Homage to Saturnino Herrán", which were held in January of that year. The exhibition was composed by collections from the Museo de Aguascalientes del INBA, Pinacoteca Ateneo Fuente and private collections. The exhibition presented oils and drawings of large and small format among which: Labor, El Jarabe, La leyenda de los volcanes, La criolla del mantón and El friso de nuestros dioses.
