01 de May 1985 - 30 de Jun 1985
In May of 1985, with the exhibition Ignacio Asúnsolo, escultor. 1890-1965. Exposición antológica a door was open. It was an open door for the review of the radical problem of how a Mexican sculpture should answer to the requirements of our emerging nationalism; to the vision that the country needed to have of itself regarding the work that should be done in the future. Due to the sociopolitical project in which the work of Asúnsolo was inserted, a State project, like many other artists or the Escuela Mexicana de Pintura itself, open the problematic of the situation of the plastic artist, not so much in front of the State in general, but the Mexican state in particular. Asúnsolo offered the opportunity to address it very directly, bearing in mind that it closely followed the historical curve of post-revolutionary governments.
The modern thought regarding Latin America, where Mexico is integrated, proceeded to this assimilation of facts that previously seemed irrelevant or collateral to an updated Latin American thought, not to say revolutionary, but which are essential for the understanding of ourselves and integrating a humanism, whose contours we began to notice. For these reasons, and for the intrinsic value of Asúnsolo's work, for its warmth, its love for life, its compassion, its profound solidarity with the human beings, the Museo Nacional de Arte proudly presented this exhibition.
