Germán Gedovius. Una generación entre dos siglos: del porfiriato a la posrevolución 1867-1937

01 de Jul 1984 - 31 de Oct 1984

Germán Gedovius 1867-1937 was the first global exhibition that focused on the work of this artist in the 117 years since his birth and 47 since his death. From July to October 1984, it was presented in the room for temporary exhibitions. The number of paintings of his authorship that appeared in this exhibition not only gave a clear idea of his work capacity but also of the esteem which he enjoyed.

Therefore, a careful consideration of his work, the meaning of his concerns to reach a certain level of excellence, his experimentation with different styles and attitudes to the pictorial work, from the German finisecular experience —in contrast to the subsequent search by Diego Rivera in the avant-garde Paris, from the beginnings of the century— allowed a more thorough understanding of the origins and cultural motives that had many Mexican experiences essential for our time.
