01 de Dec 1984 - 28 de Feb 1985
The exhibition Diego Rivera. Los años cubistas was presented from December 1984 to February 1985. The idea emerged from Ramón Favela from the University of Texas. It made us reconsider the artworks by their own merits, as a phase of the painter that represented an important aspect of the movement in which he was present. Studying Rivera’s cubism served to illustrate what the painter really meant for the education he received from the academy in Mexico. At the same time, it helped to understand of what, till nowadays, was a mysterious mental process, reason why, ignoring the decorative mural painting of Europe during the beginning of the century, he was sensible to the one of the Trecento and the Quattrocento, on which he was sensible to the lesson of Cézanne.
We thank Ramón Favela, the Museo de Arte de Phoenix, Arizona, Galería IBM de Ciencia y Arte de Nueva York and the Museo de Arte Moderno de San Francisco, for their efforts in order to carry out this exhibition.
